CALLICOON CENTER — A two-part structure fire broke out around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, and reignited Sunday morning at 621 Callicoon Center Road in Callicoon Center. Multiple fire departments were called in to take swift action to both calls. Other emergency services were present at the scene.

Callicoon Center Fire Department Second Assistant Chief Nick Olsen reported that there were two separate fire incidents at the same location.

The first response was reported due to a chimney fire that grew too large and neared too close to the wall, causing a flame to break out inside the building.

According to Olsen, there was a resident inside the building at the time of the fire, but they were evacuated safely before the fire department had arrived on scene.

Responding to the initial call were the Jeffersonville, North Branch, Youngsville and Kenoza Lake fire departments, as well as the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office which helped in directing traffic on Callicoon Center Road. Also, a unit from the Jeffersonville Ambulance Corps was waiting on standby.

However, the fire rekindled Sunday morning, in which the initial first responders were called back into action, along with the assistance of the Roscoe Fire Department and the Bethel FAST team.

As for the fire rekindling, Olsen said, “We are unsure of the cause at this time. It is still under investigation.”
All people were accounted for and there were no injuries reported.
