To the editor:

In his letter of May 13 Steve White, when referring to Jewish expressed concerns over antisemitism causing opposition to Jewish building in Forestburgh refers to the, “ … Hasidic playbook to fan the flames …”.

Wow!

Imagine he said “Black” playbook, or “Gay” playbook, or “Female” playbook ???

This would be instantly recognized as a racist hurtful un-American stereotyping.

Under what rock has he been living for the past 20 years regarding how to address his fellow Americans who dress, look, or believe differently than he?

The most glaring elision in his letter is his, I presume, purposely blithely ignoring the fact that the governments of Bloomingburg and Mamakating recently were forced to pay $2.9 million in total damages ($1.595 million from Mamakating and $1.305 million from Bloomingburg) as a result of their bigoted, anti-semitic efforts to block the settlement of Hasidic Jews in the area.

My family has been living in Sullivan County for 100 years, we know from personal experience the Klan used to ride high here during the 1920’s.

Does Mr. White [know this]?

So the racism of Mamakating doesn’t come from nowhere. But the most fatuous statement of his was that Hasidim wouldn’t want him living among them either! Don’t you know that two wrongs don’t make one right?
