USBC NYS women's tourney to see improvements

The 85th Annual New York State USBC Women’s Championships will be held in April and May 2022 at the recently upgraded Midway Lanes in Vestal, NY.

Midway has been a popular venue for large bowling tournaments for many years, and this year in May they announced new upgrades totaling $550,000.

Upgrades on the 36 lanes included: new kickback panels which will help with pin deflection, new flat gutter upgrades which will increase pin carry, new ball return units, new foul lights, and a brand new Kegal Flex Walker lane machine has been added.

Midway upgraded their bowling machines (pin setters) from 8270’s to 8270-XL’s, a project that will take about a year to complete and will cut down machine breakdowns by 75%.

Gary Palma joined the Midway Lanes family by moving his X-Act Reaction Pro Shop to an expanded and remodeled facility inside Midway Lanes.

The NYS Women’s Championships dates include April 9-10, 22-24, 29-30, May 13-15, 20-22. For exact squad times, see the application forms at NYS USBC Tournaments online.

Ed’s Outlook

Team USA men’s team has won the gold medal and the 2021 International Bowling Federation Super World Championship.

Individually, Andrew Anderson, Jacob Butturff, AJ Johnson and Kristopher Prather are some of the best bowlers in the world and, with this win, they have all proven they can deliver in the most pressure-packed situations.

Team USA won the team event championship over Korea.

The IBF Super World Championships is the first of three events to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Bowling Tip By Mike Luongo

Do you find yourself unable to finish your delivery in a strong balanced position?

We offer this week’s tip for any bowler who ends up out of balance at the foul line while delivering your bowling ball.

Being out of balance may be a result of your follow through.

It is very important that when you follow through on your delivery you do not reach out with your arm but reach up with your follow through.

Bowlers who reach out find that the weight of the ball will pull their upper body forward and may cause them to lose their balance.

If you reach up you stay planted in a strong solid position and are able to deliver your bowling ball with accuracy and leverage.
