LIBERTY – Liberty Public Library is proud to announce a special watercolor art exhibit, open to the public from Wednesday, May 28 through mid-July. The exhibit will showcase the creative work of Valerie Taggart. The library invites everyone to visit and enjoy these remarkable paintings during regular hours of operation.
Valerie Taggart is a local artist who received a BA in Art Education from Elmira College and a MA in Painting/Printmaking at S.U.N.Y Oswego. She is a retired Elementary/Middle School Art Teacher, a member of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA), and a signature member of the North East Watercolor Society.
Valerie says this about her artwork, “My artwork consists of representational drawings, paintings and prints inspired in the most part by the natural beauty of the Catskills. I strive to capture the energy and light of the day and to create a feeling of place. My art often invokes the quiet solitude of rural life. Watercolor is by far my favorite medium.”
In addition to the exhibit, the library is excited to offer a hands-on workshop for those interested in learning the art of printmaking. Printmaking is often used to create notecards, calendars, books, and framed artwork. Artist Valerie Taggart will guide participants through the process of creating a simple drawing on polystyrene, adding color, and making multiple prints on paper. Participants will take home both their original drawing and the prints they create. All materials are provided. Registration is required at the front desk or through our online calendar. A refundable $5 cash deposit is required to hold your spot.
