Von Steuben Day in Yulan

Decked out in lederhosen and beautiful Bavarian costumes the German Shuplatter Folk Dancers wowed the crowd with their foot stomping, clapping and shoe slapping style of traditional German dancing at the Yulan Fire Department’s 29th Annual Von Steuben Day celebration.

Patrick Russell of Yulan and Ryan Gillespie of Glen Spey Leader of Boy Scout Troop 106 oversee the environmental craft project as the boy scouts assist visitors to the Von Steuben Day event in assembling an Audubon wooden wren house. The recycled wood was donated by the Estermerwalt Log Homes Corporation of Beach Lake, Pennsylvania.

Laura from the Yulan Country Store and Bakery is serving the hungry visitors to the Yulan Fire Department’s Von Steuben Day Chef Korad Kovac’s delicious saubraten with red cabbage and dumplings and a side of traditional black forest cake.

HIGHLAND - One of the Town of Highland’s premier family friendly events, the Von Steuben German Fest, was held on Saturday, September 18. Decked out in their best, patrons of the German Fest celebrated with live music from the Mountain Express Band, German folk dancing exhibition and plenty of activities for the children including making an Audubon wren bird house.
