Watertown man accused of bank robbery

MONTICELLO — The man wanted in connection to a robbery at M&T Bank in Monticello on Friday is back in Sullivan County after being apprehended in New York City over the weekend.

On Friday, April 8 the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a robbery at the M&T Bank at 4446 State Route 42 in Monticello.

Witnesses told Sheriff’s Detectives that a white male wearing an orange shirt and no mask entered the bank at about 1:20 p.m. that afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office says the man approached a bank teller and passed them a note stating he had a gun and demanded money.

The man then fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant for the suspect who was quickly identified as Charles Pratt, 33, of Watertown, New York.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that Pratt was driving a stolen 2015 Ford Explorer Ltd., color charcoal gray, with a New York license plate of KMM1568.

The vehicle was spotted in between Friday night and Saturday morning in Manhattan and Queens.

On Saturday, New York City Police Officers from the 32nd Precinct located the vehicle parked in Harlem.

NYPD officers arrested Pratt after he was found sleeping in the back seat.

Pratt was charged with possessing a stolen vehicle.

Sheriff’s detectives extradited Pratt yesterday morning from New York City and returned him to Sullivan County where he was charged with Robbery 3rd degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 3rd degree and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle 1st degree, all felonies.

Pratt was arraigned before Neversink Town Justice Michael Scagnelli and sent to the Sullivan County Jail without bail pending a future appearance in the Town of Thompson Court.

“We have a motivated group of deputy sheriffs who take these crimes very seriously,” said Sheriff Mike Schiff. “They were relentless in their pursuit of this suspect.”

The Sheriff also acknowledged the police officers of the NYPD 32nd precinct.

“We all know how busy they are in New York City with their own investigations. They did a great job spotting the getaway vehicle on the street and apprehending the suspect,” Schiff continued.
