Week six brings more divisional action

SULLIVAN COUNTY – The regular season is quickly reaching its finale, as there are just two weeks left for teams to set themselves up for the postseason.

Sullivan West and Tri-Valley are all but assured a playoff appearance, each starting a perfect 3-0 in the division, those two will likely be competing for the first and second seeds. Meanwhile, Ellenville, Eldred and Fallsburg each sit at 1-2 in the division with a chance to grab that third seed.

Monticello and Liberty both suffered losses on the 11-man side of things, but their seasons are still far from over as they look to get some wins down the stretch.

Friday Night Lights

Livingston Manor/Roscoe at Sullivan West, 7 pm

The Blue Devils have had a tough road this season. Their low numbers and inexperience has cost them through the first five games. Sullivan West has been the inverse, retaining a decent amount of players and getting some quality experience early in the year has them rolling as the season has progressed. After barely escaping with a win over Eldred, the Bulldogs handily defeated Fallsburg and beat Ellenville by double digits to stay a perfect 3-0 in the division.

These two teams will be under the lights in Lake Huntington on Friday, and with Roscoe’s injuries mounting, it seems like the perfect time for Sullivan West to grab a momentum boosting win before they take on Tri-Valley in the final regular season matchup.

Tri-Valley at Eldred, 7 pm

The Yellowjackets finally got into the win column for the division after losing two heartbreaking games against Sullivan West and Ellenville. Their 39-0 shutout over Roscoe was a great way to kick start the offense before taking on the red hot Bears.

Tri-Valley had a big win over Fallsburg this past weekend in their final regular season home game, with Austin Hartman continuing his dominant senior season with five total touchdowns.

Though Eldred has just one league victory compared to Tri-Valley’s three, this very well could lead to an upset in favor of the Yellowjackets with how well they have played.

Saturday’s Selections

Fallsburg at Ellenville, 1 pm

The Comets started the season hot at 2-0, but their past two games against Sullivan West and Tri-Valley have been concerning. The Comets still have a route to the playoffs, but it would require getting healthy and putting up points against Ellenville and Eldred.

Ellenville shares the same division record as Fallsburg, and this contest will have huge playoff implications regarding that third seed in the division.

 Beacon at Monticello, 1 pm

Beacon and Monticello are currently at the bottom of the division. Depending on how the other A matchups go this weekend, the winner could move up to third place at 1-2. Monticello’s one win overall is the only win that these two teams have combined for this season. Beacon sits at 0-5 and has scored many less points than Monticello.

Liberty at Saugerties, 1 pm

Liberty and Saugerties, similar to Monticello and Beacon are both at the bottom of the B division for Section 9. The two teams have a combined 11 losses between them and no wins. In division play, Saugerties has been slightly better scoring 13 points and allowing 109 while Liberty has scored 6 and allowed 113.

This game will truly be a toss up, home field advantage in Saugerties will likely be a factor, but if Liberty wants to get a win this weekend will likely be their best shot.
