Weyer headed to Thompson

THOMPSON—Jill Weyer, who currently serves as the Executive Director of the Sullivan County Land Bank and Deputy Commissioner for the Sullivan County Division of Planning, Community Development, and Real Property, is leaving the County for a position in the Town of Thompson.

According to Thompson Town Supervisor Bill Rieber Jr., Weyer was hired to replace current Deputy Administrator, Patrice Chester, who is set to retire in late March. While the job title might differ due to the civil service placement, Rieber says Weyer will take over Chester’s duties.

“We are very excited; we think she (Weyer) is a great fit,” said Rieber.

According to the County’s website, Weyer, a graduate of Columbia University and the University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, oversaw many county programs and initiatives to “promote planning, protection of open space and farmland, community development and watershed management.”

Weyer has been involved with the Revolving Loan Fund, which loans funds to local businesses.

And as the Executive Director of the Sullivan County Land Bank, she oversaw their efforts and mission to, “strengthen neighborhoods by mitigating blight through strategic property acquisition that will create vibrant neighborhoods, increase homeownership, stimulate economic growth and support community development by returning properties to productive use and improve quality of life.”

Weyer recently spoke to the Democrat about the rebuilding of the Broadway Theater in the Village of Monticello, saying, “Our hope is to start the redevelopment of that entire block and start to see some more investment happening in downtown Monticello.”

The Democrat reached out to Weyer for comment on her new position with the Town of Thompson but did not receive a response by press- time.
