WJFF starts new chapter in Liberty

LIBERTY –– One year ago WJFF Radio Catskill broke ground on the 2758 State Route 52 Liberty property that now serves as its new headquarters, after spending over three decades in Jeffersonville.

A celebratory ribbon cutting was held, in collaboration with the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce, on Tuesday morning, with many WJFF board members, staff, volunteers, local partners and officials present.

“We’ve got 32 years of chapters in our history, and now we have 32 more years of chapters to fill, and we hope everyone here helps us write those pages as we go,” WJFF Board of Trustees President Kirsten Harlow Foster told the Democrat.

“Today’s a big day,” she continued. “It’s a huge honor. I think there’s been a countless number of people that have made this day happen from all of the board members, staff, the whole community … all of our sound supporters. It’s been a long time in the making and it’s exciting to open the doors.”

The Liberty property, once home to the Catskill Harvest Market, was donated to the station by long-time supporter Barbara Martinsons, and has since been transformed into a new broadcast facility with high-level industry standard digital studios, a community space, offices, and grounds.

Reflecting on the completed move to Liberty, WJFF General Manager Tim Bruno called it, “a physical manifestation of everybody’s efforts over the years.”

“Everybody from Barbara Martinsons who donated the property to us to all of the board members and community members that had input or helped make any little piece of this happen throughout the years … This is the representation of all that hard work and it’s so great to be here and see it and feel like we’ve all accomplished something together,” said Bruno. “I’m proud of all of us.”

The public radio station is currently in the middle of their “Summer Fun! Drive.” To donate or learn more about the station, visit https://wjffradio.org.
