Woodland Weavers and Spinners Guild Meeting

DAMASCUS, PA - Woodland Weavers and Spinners Guild will be meeting Saturday, August 20, at the Damascus Community Center, Conklin Hill Road, Damascus, PA.
Our August meeting presentation will be with Barbara Lubeck, who will cover the care and maintenance of spinning wheels. Have a spinning wheel you’ve inherited or are interested in purchasing? Not sure what it is exactly? Join us as we review the many types of spinning wheels there are and help to get you answers. Bring your wheel and join us for our first spinning wheel clinic!
Barbara is a long time fiber enthusiast, not only a spinner and knitter, but is also an avid collector of vintage and modern spinning wheels. A proficient spinner on both wheels and drop spindles, you can often see Barbara demonstrating at local and regional fiber festivals.
WWSG is a teaching guild servicing Sullivan and Wayne counties, whose purpose is to share their knowledge of spinning and weaving all kinds of fiber, with programs at each meeting to teach these skills, as well as other types of fiber arts such as natural dyeing, felting, and care and use of spinning and weaving appliances. Dues for the guild are $20 for the year, and $30 for a family membership. Membership is open to all ages and skill levels, for anyone who wants to learn these fiber arts, and the guild has some materials (such as a spinning wheel and several types of weaving looms, and other adjunct pieces) available for members to borrow while they learn. We have study groups that focus on spinning, weaving, and knitting, with those meetings held separately from the general meetings. Meetings are held on the third Saturday of the month, April through November. Future meetings will be held September 17 covering weaving tips and tricks; October 15 will be a spin-in, and our November 19 meeting will be a review of group projects, cookie exchange, and planning for the next year.
We welcome visitors and any who want to learn about fiber arts. For further information, please call Lisa at 845-866-4354.
