Yes, I have no bananas

Other than the sadness I feel over the world losing people through death and the uncertainty of what lies ahead, the Coronavirus hasn't touched me personally.

I know of a niece of a dear friend of mine who tested positive and has recovered and a fellow member of the Martin Luther King Committee who also contracted it and is still in recovery. I am being careful especially because of my age and that I live in a high risk area in New Jersey.

I no longer go to stores and visiting is done by phone or email. My son, Michael, does my food shopping about once a week. Today (April 8th) is my son's birthday. He is 65 so besides wishing him a Happy Birthday, I texted him that due to his advanced age he should see if he can get someone to shop for him.

Last week two of my neighbors offered to pick something up at the store for me if I needed anything. At the time I didn't, but now I need bananas and wondering if I should hold off asking one of them to get some for me or wait until the Easter Bunny (Michael) comes to do my shopping on Sunday.

I've always been fond of bananas and the last time I remember being faced with such a crisis was during World War II when there was an extreme shortage of them. My Grandpa Krantz who lived in Middletown had more of a chance to find some than we did. He would bring a few bananas when he came to visit, which made a bigger hit with me than candy would have.

If that's all I have to worry about, I feel extremely blessed and hope that I and loved ones continue to dodge the bullet. For all of you who have been tragically touched personally by this pandemic I send you my sympathy and love. May God give us the strength to face whatever is ahead of us.
