Youngsville spruce selected for RXR Christmas Installation

YOUNGSVILLE —  A tree was selected from the hamlet of Youngsville, NY, to be transported, installed, and adorned in Christmas lights and decorations by Egan Acres Tree Farm of Yonkers, NY as this year’s Christmas tree display at the RXR Plaza in Uniondale, NY.

The tree, a Norway Spruce, measures to be roughly 53 feet tall. It was grown at the former tree farm known as Cooper’s Nursery. The massive tree was entrusted to the capable hands of Youngsville residents and retired New York City Police Officer and Lieutenant respectively, Jim and Helen Caruso.

Eager to provide, the Carusos parted with the tree in hopes that their little part of Youngsville and of Sullivan County could be shared with others in such a grand and festive fashion.

According to the RXR website, the plaza is rated the number one office building by the Long Island Business News, and is fully equipped with a fitness center, conference center, cafe, and garden lounge.

Imagining their homegrown tree adorned in Christmas decorations and installed in such a distinguished location, much “like [the tree] in Rockefeller Center,” brought pride and joy to the Carusos.

Additionally, a representative of Egan Acres spoke to the Carusos when inspecting and wrapping the Spruce for the procedure about more opportunities in the area regarding trees.

According to the Carusos, Egan Acres is looking for “spare part trees,” as well as other Spruces that reach at least a minimum of 50 feet.

A “spare parts tree” can be shorter than 50 feet, as the use would only require the spruce to have healthy branches that could be removed and placed on the body of another tree that is less filled out.

Overall, the Carusos were pleased with the work that Egan Acres had done with their massive Spruce, and they look forward to seeing their tree and piece of local natural history become the center-piece of the holiday festivities at the RXR Plaza in Uniondale, NY.

The tree will be collected, moved to the site, and illuminated all within the coming weeks in preparation for the holiday season.
