They call it ‘mellow yarrow'

By Carol Montana - editor

This yarrow bloom was part of the stunning display of flowers at the Forestburgh Playhouse last Saturday. Legend has it that the Greek mythical hero Achilles used it to stop the bleeding in his soldiers' wounds, hence the scientific name Achillea millefolium. Yarrow is used to treat colds, cramps, fevers, kidney disorders, toothaches, skin irritations, and hemorrhages. The flowers come in white, red, pink, salmon and this striking yellow.
