New producer Franklin Trapp is excited to start the season.
FORESTBURGH — Opening night, Tuesday, June 10, is just a week away and already the excitement is starting to build.
And while the longest running summer stock theater in New York State is getting ready to raise the curtain on its 68th season, the best word to describe this year would be "new".
The Playhouse invites the community to experience opening night in a new way by attending its Opening Night Gala and Silent Auction.
According to Franklin Trapp, new Producer of the Playhouse, “this year we wanted to host a reception for our sponsors, but more importantly, we wanted to showcase the Forestburgh Playhouse and the high-quality, professional theatre that we produce every year.”
The June 10 event will begin at 6 p.m.
with a reception catered by the Forestburgh Tavern's executive chef, Jill Padua.
The reception will be followed by the opening performance of the first cabaret of the season, British Invasion. After the cabaret, guests will enjoy sumptuous desserts and coffee followed by the opening night performance of Agatha Christie's "A Murder is Announced."
The Gala will also feature a silent auction containing items from local Sullivan County businesses, fine art from New York City galleries, and other surprise items.
The fundraiser will benefit the new non-profit that runs the Playhouse, Theatrical Arts at Forestburgh, Inc.
“We are excited to invite the community to this event and hope to share what we do and generate support from the community so that we can continue to grow and develop our mission as a non-profit,” Trapp said. “Our goals include a broad array of outreach programs for our county youth, the development of new works of theatre and music, and the production of contemporary works of theatre in smaller, more intimate venues.”
A ticket to the Gala is $95.
If already a ticketholder for "A Murder is Announced," the ticket can be exchanged for June 10 and the Gala ticket will only cost $65.
Info on tickets and the schedule for the Gala is available by calling the box office at 794-1194 or online at www.
Plays this year include: Loretta Swit in "Mame," "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," "My Fair Lady," "La Cage Aux Folles," "Mary Poppins" and "The Chosen."
