Invasive Plants and the Alternatives for Your Landscape

FERNDALE - The Sullivan Renaissance Invasive Plant Alternatives seminar will be held on Wednesday, September 4 at Cornell Cooperative Extension's Gerald J. Skoda Education Center, 64 Ferndale-Loomis Road in Liberty from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
World travel and trade have been the catalyst for the unintentional introduction of unwanted invasive species of plants, insects and diseases for hundreds of years. Shipping pallets and crates, luggage, the ballast water of boats and tire treads are a few of the vehicles that have led to the spread.
“Some plant species were introduced intentionally for use in landscaping.
Little did our ancestors know that the transport of plant seeds, roots and stems would become an environmental problem for Sullivan County in the future,” said Diana K. Weiner, Sullivan Renaissance Horticulture Program Manager, who will lead the seminar. Learn what plants to avoid and which can be used as alternatives.
Space is limited and pre-registration is requested. Light refreshments will be served. To register, visit or call the Sullivan Renaissance office at 845-295-2445. Event details can also be found on the Sullivan Renaissance Facebook page.
