These fiberglass doves - which measure 5 feet by 7 feet - will soon be seen ‘flying' around Sullivan County to welcome visitors and year-round residents alike to the hamlets and villages of Sullivan County.
SULLIVAN COUNTY —What's the biggest bird in Sullivan County?
Well, beginning early next year, it's going to be doves.
Thirty-six of them to be exact.
The Sullivan County Visitors Association recently adopted three dozen of these white birds, known as a symbol of love and peace.
And with the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock just seven months away, the message couldn't be any clearer - come to Sullivan County where you will be loved and cherished.
“My birds have arrived,” an excited Roberta Byron-Lockwood said yesterday morning. “Everybody is so excited, we can't wait to get them out.

These 5-foot high by 7-foot long sculptures, which weigh 150 pounds without a base, will soon be flying into a hamlet or village near you as part of a themed touchpoint for people to see.
The doves will be painted by local artists in specific color schemes and be an attraction which Byron-Lockwood hopes generates excitement and interest.
“It might be like a ‘Where's Waldo,' as our guests and residents try to find them all,” she said.
With winter beginning to settle in, Byron-Lockwood said it may be a few months before the towns can ready the ground to accept their new “feathered” friends.
“It will truly give a sense of place for all the towns,” she said. “These doves will not only welcome the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock but be a sustainable trail down the road to help reposition and recapture visitors and bring wealth to our towns.”
