American Electric still open after suffering fire

LAKE HUNTINGTON - American Electric's office at 238 Nearing Road in Lake Huntington is open for business after a fire ravaged the building the night before Thanksgiving.

“As we as a family are devastated of what we have lost, we know we will get through this with the help of family, friends, and a strong community,” the owners said on their Facebook page.

They continued, “Even with this setback, we are open for business and are continuing our daily routines as normal.”

According to Lake Huntington Fire Company Assistant Chief Jason Kraack, they received the call on Wednesday, November 25 at around 5:30 p.m.

The fire was reported by one of the owners, who had left work for the day but was driving by when he noticed the fire.

No one was inside the building and there were no injuries reported.

Also responding to the scene were White Lake, Callicoon, Kenoza Lake, Lava and Jeffersonville fire departments.

Kraack said the fire spread in the rear of the building and onto the second floor, taking about three hours to knock down the flames.

There was extensive damage to the upstairs offices and the roof, Kraack said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Sullivan County Bureau of Fire.
