The Nardis have closed Frankie and Johnny's so that they can spend more time with family.
HURLEYVILLE -- After over four decades as a staple of Hurleyville's Main Street, the Nardi family recently made the decision to close Frankie and Johnny's (Nardi's Italian Restaurant).
Like most restaurants during the pandemic, Frankie and Johnny's shifted to a takeout model, and according to family member, Amy Nardi, business was great.
While being open less hours, the Nardis, like many families, were taught several life lessons from the pandemic, one of which being the importance of quality time with family.
After closing in February for a six-week vacation, they reopened and after three days it hit them ...
their priorities had changed.
The popular restaurant has been a part of many moments for local families. They've been open for birthdays, graduation celebrations, funerals, etc.
Amy noted that while they loved taking part in those moments, it also meant less time with their own family.
Despite the restaurant being closed, the Nardi family is here to stay. Amy (who is Frank's wife) said they look forward to continuing to be a part of the Hurleyville community.
The family has a special milestone coming up as their patriarch, Johnny, will turn 90 this summer. Amy said he and wife Mary are doing very well.
At this time, the Nardi family has not made a decision on if they will lease out the space or sell the property.
“We really want to express our gratitude and thanks for being able to serve our customers for decades,” said Amy. “We're so grateful for all the success. Business was going strong, and this wasn't a decision we took lightly. But when it's time, it's time.”
