LIBERTY -- Dr. Augustine Tornatore is heading home. The Long Island native has accepted the position of superintendent at the Riverhead Central School District.

Tornatore has served as the superintendent of schools at the Liberty Central School District for the past three years. His resignation was accepted by the district's board of education at their May 4 meeting, and his last day at Liberty will be June 30.

“In the three years that I have been Liberty's superintendent, I have come to love this district, this community and, most especially, the students,” said Dr. Tornatore. “Leaving was a difficult decision, but I know there is a great team in place here. The faculty and staff work tirelessly, and they are among the most dedicated and talented people I have had the privilege to work with."

The Liberty CSD Board of Education would like to hear from the public as they commence their search for a new superintendent.

The public is asked to send their thoughts to District Clerk Tania DeFrank by Tuesday, May 11. She can be reached at tdefrank@libertyk12.org.
