Cleaning up De Hoyos Memorial park

Posted

MONTICELLO — Community volunteers and organizations gathered on a warm Sunday afternoon at De Hoyos Memorial Park and Pond on May 2 to do a little spring cleaning.

More than two dozen volunteers from Monticello Rotary, Sullivan County Renaissance, Boy Scout Troop 1717, members of the Village Board and community members traversed the park with gloves and garbage bags just as the season begins to open up.

Volunteers collected many bags of trash, metal, plastic, electronics and even a shopping cart.

The village is considering upgrades to De Hoyos Park that could include a basketball court and a pathway that connects De Hoyos and Dillon Parks together.

The day before, volunteers in the Town of Thompson gathered to litterpluck Hamilton Road. They filled up an entire dump truck worth of trash.
