A light along the way

As I observe the behavior of our younger citizens I rethink some of the guidelines that have served me well. Many of us were goal-minded in our teens and twenties.
As today's youth set out on their life journey they too need to establish goals they can accomplish. The goals may change but they need to plan their trip carefully.
Our behaviors affect others, whether positively or negatively. If we are striving to do our best others will follow the lead.
As the ancients wrote “To thine own self be true. Thou canst then be false to any man.”
Each day we are faced with choices. By learning what each choice involves we are able to choose well.
Companionship along the way enriches our lives and makes them more complete. Friendships should be a 50-50 situation. Each friend brings something worthy for others to share.
Sometimes we are used by others who claim to be friends. I found myself in a situation where I was asked for help. As things moved along it became obvious I was to help with a bridesmaid dress for the granddaughter of a friend. After I had altered the pattern and made suggestions about sewing the dress my friend said “Oh, I don't sew.” At first I was angry but I researched seamstresses in the area and passed along the info.
In this day of anxiety about many things we must be aware of the scammers among us. Nearly every day I receive calls that I have won large amounts of money. The latest news is that the scammers are attempting to capture our voices. I do not know what the purpose is.
These guidelines have served me well. From setting goals and observing others' behavior we all move on to choices.
Our friendships enrich our lives and bring joy in difficult times.
Our knowledge of the users and scammers among us make our lives safer.
I am reminded of a verse we all learned in Lena Buddenhagen's classroom.
“Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Til the good is better and the better best.”
Keep smiling, friends.
