LIBERTY -- It's hard to dig yourself out of a hole, which is what the Fallsburg Lady Comets found themselves in with a 28-4 deficit at halftime. The Lady Indians (1-0) easily dispatched their county/division rivals, 55-18, on Wednesday.
“I was very happy with the way my team played today,” said Liberty Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Liz Fuentes. “Considering the short season and lack of training we have had, they moved the ball really well. Defensively we had quick hands and were able to cause a lot of turnovers. Every day is a gift this season, so we are just enjoying our time together as a team.
”
Liberty senior guard Ally Roth led the way with a double-double, 16 pts and 10 steals. In Grace Wormuth's first varsity game for Liberty, she scored 15 points and had five rebounds. Liberty seniors Yanira and Yanire Wilson dominated the boards, combining for 25 rebounds.
Allison Perna and Kaitlyn Cross led Fallsburg (1-0) with six points each.
