STATEN ISLAND -- Kudos to the five Sullivan County athletes who competed at the NYSPHSAA Indoor track championships on March 7 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
Monticello senior Steve Bello finished 13th in the 1600 with a time of 4:26.73. Teammate Evan Waterton ran the 1600 leg in the intersectional relay in a time of 4:38. He helped the Section 9 team come back from last place as the initial leg run by a Washingtonville runner was marred by a dropped baton.
Monti freshman Taina DeJesus finished 16th in the 55 hurdles preliminaries.
She posted a time 8.83.
Sullivan West's Roan Gillingham was 31st in the 300 preliminaries with a time of 37.36.
Finally, Fallburg's Dolce McPherson was 17th in the 300 preliminaries with a time of 41.13.
Congratulations for an outstanding season. Making it to states is, in and of itself, a remarkable achievement. We look forward to all five of these superb athletes and many others excelling this spring.
