Due process hearings about dilapidated lots set

WURTSBORO — Several unsafe structures in Wurtsboro Hills have been deemed hazardous and the town board voted to start the process on removing them. The properties are on 36 Sunrise Trail, Sunrise Trail SBL42.-8-8 and 15 trail 4.

“They are unsightly, they are unsafe,” Town Supervisor Bill Herrmann said. A due process hearing is set for January 2, 2018 at 6 p.m., which will give the owners a chance to speak to the town board.

The town board also introduced a local law , amended the requirements for large solar energy systems The goal of the local law will be to tighten up existing solar codes and to keep an eye towards environmental conservation.

Additionally, a workshop for the new comprehensive plan has been scheduled for January 2, 2018. The town board will discuss additional comments received regarding the comprehensive plan. This workshop is open to the public, but they will not be receiving any public comments at that time.

A public hearing was also set for zoning law amendments for the Light Industrial/Office District (LIO) in regards to extractive operations of natural resources. A local law was introduced to prohibit mining in the LIO. A hearing will be held January 2, 2018 6 p.m.

Moreover, a Request For Proposal (RFP) to has set to begin the process on receiving bids to turn the town's landfill into a location for future solar energy systems.

The town board opened the floor to public comments at their latest meeting regarding the continued tax exemptions for the Cold War Veterans living in Mamakating. There are currently 46 Cold War veterans and the town board unanimously approved the extension.
