Grants update in Tusten

NARROWSBURG — The Town of Tusten has a few larger projects on the horizon, and on Tuesday night the town board discussed grant funding for some of them.

Councilwoman Jane Luchsinger reported that the plans to replace the town's water system are still proceeding.

They hired Delaware Engineering to do a preliminary engineering report that has been underway, and they are hoping to finish it by the spring.

“That will give us the credibility to go ahead and apply for grants toward the infrastructure of the water system,” Luchsinger said.

The Water and Sewer Department recently hired two new employees and received a grant of $21,000 for education.

Luchsinger also said the town is applying for two Upper Delaware Council grants, and one is submitted, and the other is due by the end of the month. The Technical Assistance Grants would go toward updating the town's Comprehensive Plan.

The board announced they will be applying for a new grant from Sullivan Renaissance for a one-time capital improvement project.

“It's a large grant, it's called a community impact grant, so it's to do something that will have a long-term effect for the community in a positive way,” Luchsinger said.

Little Lake Erie Culvert update

A presentation for the public on the Little Lake Erie Culvert will be held on March 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Tusten Town Hall.

Plans will be presented, as well as how traffic will be diverted and the duration of the project.

The culvert over Little Lake Erie in Narrowsburg was determined to need repairs in 2015.

The town has received grant funding for the project, which includes a grant in the amount of $921,000 administered through the New York State Department of Transportation Bridge NY program.
