Snow, arctic air on the way

SULLIVAN COUNTY -- Despite a large snowfall in November, things have been pretty quiet this winter. But another storm is on the horizon. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for our region from noon tomorrow (Saturday) to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The watch reads, “...Heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of 9 to 15 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch are expected. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph...”

According to David Nicosia, Warning Coordination Meteorologist at National Weather Service Binghamton, “After the storm passes, the more significant thing is the arctic air pulling in.”

Temperatures will fall into the low teens, single digits on Sunday (into the negatives overnight), with wind chills as cold as negative 20 degrees.

“Winter is coming back really, really strong,” Nicosia said. “The pattern is changing. We're going to get into deep winter in the next few weeks.”
