HONESDALE, PA – The Greater Honesdale Partnership (GHP) and Honesdale Borough are pleased to announce the official groundbreaking ceremony for the highly anticipated 12th Street Promenade Project, taking place on Wednesday, July 15, at 11:00 a.m. at the corner of Main Street and 12th Street in Honesdale.
Community members, business owners, elected officials, project partners, and supporters are invited to attend as construction officially begins on a project that will transform an important gateway into downtown Honesdale.
The 12th Street Promenade Project is designed to create a vibrant public gathering space that strengthens the connection between Downtown Honesdale and the Lackawaxen River. The project will improve pedestrian accessibility, enhance public safety, create opportunities for community events and recreation, and serve as a welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike.
The promenade will become a key component of Honesdale's ongoing downtown revitalization efforts, complementing the Main Street Streetscape Project and helping to establish stronger connections between the downtown business district, recreational amenities, and riverfront resources. “This project represents years of planning, partnership, and community investment,” said Sandi Levens, Executive Director of the Greater Honesdale Partnership. “The 12th Street Promenade will create a unique space where residents and visitors can gather, attend events, enjoy the riverfront, and experience a stronger connection to our downtown. We are excited to celebrate this important milestone with the community.”
The project has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of Honesdale Borough, the Greater Honesdale Partnership, Woodland Design Associates, state and local funding partners, and numerous community stakeholders who have helped shape the vision for the space.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of construction by Stafurskyb Paving Company, Inc. on a project that is expected to enhance Honesdale's quality of life, support economic development, and create a lasting community asset for generations to come.
