Sullivan County residents far and wide came out for a “gourd” time at the 39th Annual Giant Pumpkin Party last Saturday.
A primary focus of this annual fall event is on the community’s children and their love for reading books.
Whether you were looking for games, food, or fall festivities, there was definitely something for everyone.
The fall celebrations started strong at 10:00 in the morning with the Costume March. In this busy event, kids were able to show off their creative side with a wide range of characters from Sonic and Shadow the Hedgehog to the Incredible Hulk. Participants were able to receive a special book prize and a sweet treat.
Following the Costume March was the Tri-Valley Band led by Matthew Weyant. Speaking of music, Jesse Noren also entertained with his tunes in the afternoon.
Across the pavilion, ponies were able to “stirrup” some fun with the Pony Rides. Nearby in the barn, attendees could get a look at livestock such as goats.
Next to those pony rides was the Adventure Zone, where kids could get their action on with a rock climbing wall, as well as various games and challenges.
When it comes to challenge, the Giant Pumpkin Party definitely delivered in competition with the Giant Pumpkin Contest and Hay Bale Throw Contest.
Along the main path were vendors offering wares such as the Daniel Pierce Library selling books and
Fancy Candle Fun, offering their wax-wares.
Kids were also able to partake in games such as the Scooby Doo Ring Toss, Flip the Pumpkin, and Skee Gold.
Across from the game tents were inflatable slides, bouncy houses and face painting.
Speaking of painting, the Children’s Craft Tent featured sand art, bead jewelry and pumpkin painting.
True to Giant Pumpkin Party tradition, guests were able to pick out their pumpkin of choice to bring home, with all proceeds benefiting the Daniel Pierce Library.
For those looking to treat their taste buds, the Grahamsville Fire Department was happy to deliver. Joining them was Cousin’s Maine Lobster, Buffalo on Wheels, and the Neversink General Store.
To any attendees who had a sweet tooth, the Daniel Pierce Library provided their savory homemade cider donuts.
The Giant Pumpkin Party Better Book Sale included a selection of gently worn books that have been donated to the library over the years.
With delectable delights like homemade donuts, strawberry shortcakes, chili, hot dogs, hamburgers, hot apple cider, and drinks available for purchase, attendees were encouraged to take a break from the festivities and read a book.
The funds collected from this event support the Daniel Pierce Library Children’s Program and acquire essential books for every age group.
