MONGAUP VALLEY – We Care Bears took care of business, beating New Hope by a score of 11 to 2 in the first game of Monday night’s double header at Collins Field.
Strong defense paved the way for the Bears’ win. Leading the charge was Carlie Bassney; who in addition to tallying 4 strike-outs, also took her defensive skills off the mound, recording 3 fielding put-outs.
The Bears’ offense was also potent enough to carry the team forward, with timely hits, including an inside-the-park home run. In addition to her excellent pitching and play in the field, Carlie Bassney also had a good day at the plate, reaching base 3 times and driving in 3 runs. Jacklyn Kimmes was another big contributor to their offense, getting a single, a double and driving in 2 runs.
New Hope just couldn’t get enough runners on base to rally for a score. Two standout players for New Hope wereMara Leroy and her sister-in-law, Yajaire Leroy. Mara hit a single, a double, and a triple, and recorded one RBI. While sister-in–law Yajaire got a single, a walk, and an RBI.
It was a complete and balanced effort by the Bears, both in the field and at the plate, which made the difference in delivering the win.
