The lawn at Bethel Woods was dotted with picnic blankets and young families on Saturday, July 19, as the Rock and Roll Playhouse took the Horizon Stage for an afternoon of Beatles-inspired fun.
The family concert series is designed for children under ten and aims to introduce them to classic rock through games, movement and storytelling.
On this day, the music of The Beatles—though the band famously never played Woodstock—rang out across the site of the iconic 1969 festival.
Children danced under a parachute, giggled through limbo lines, and swayed with their families in the summer breeze. Many sprawled out in hammocks nearby, soaking in the sunshine and music.
“The weather was nice—not too hot, with a light breeze,” said one attendee. “It was great seeing kids and parents having fun together. The Beatles’ music still brings everyone together.”
While the songs were performed by the Rock and Roll Playhouse band—not affiliated with the original artists—the crowd sang along to favorites like “Yellow Submarine” and “With a Little Help from My Friends,” many parents got up themselves and got into the groove, enjoying the nostalgia.
The Rock and Roll Playhouse wants these concerts to be more than just shows—they make them fun and hands-on, and for many kids, it’s their first time seeing live music.
The next show in the family series returns Saturday, August 9, with the music of David Bowie. Like the Beatles tribute, it’s expected to blend fun with familiarity, giving young fans a new way to experience iconic music—and perhaps spark a lifelong love of rock and roll.
