20th Year Is The Largest Ever

NARROWSBURG – It’s a very big year for small art!

The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance in Narrowsburg is hard at work gearing up for its highly-anticipated, and biggest ever, annual small works group exhibition, “Art in Sixes”. This year marks the 20th anniversary of this beloved local event and contains the biggest volume of works by the highest number of artists in the exhibition’s history.

This year’s ‘Sixes’ promises to be a dazzling visual spectacle, showcasing the creative prowess of 220+ artists of all ages. Boasting a remarkable exhibit of over 650+ pieces, esteemed local artists share the spotlight with community members, turning DVAA into an explosion of color and creativity that spans two floors.

“With a record number of artists participating, it is truly remarkable to be in the presence of such creativity. For 20 years, DVAA’s ‘Sixes’ exhibition has been an annual celebration of the incredible artistic talent – both emerging and established – that is to be discovered here in the Sullivan Catskills and Upper Delaware Region.” Ariel Shanberg, DVAA Executive Director.

Each original artwork measures 6 inches or less in any direction and is priced between $60 and $600, perfect for unique holiday gifting. You will find diverse artworks, from paintings, photographs, sculptures, and ceramics to woodwork, fiber arts, collage, and more. Your art purchase adds to your collection and directly supports the artists.

The community is invited to the opening reception on Saturday, November 16th, from 3 pm to 6 pm. The event is known for its buzzy atmosphere, where art enthusiasts and artists shmooze over wine and food while supporting their local art scene by snapping up their favorite pieces. By the end of the event, the exhibition is usually awash in distinctive red dots, marking pieces as SOLD.

Be sure to check out the youth corridor displaying artworks by the next generation of artists. DVAA once again invited local school children to participate in “Art in Sixes” and hosted several drop-in art-making programs at DVAA led by teaching artist, Adrienne Hloderwski. The program was a resounding success with attracting artworks from 50+ young people in Sullivan County, NY, and Wayne and Pike Counties, PA.

Reflecting on how it all began, artist and former DVAA Gallery Director, Rocky Pinciotti shared “When I became the Gallery Director in 2004 at DVAA, I suggested holding a fine art “small works” show in the gallery. The six inch requirement size seemed to me a good size for a number or reasons – [at six inches] the works would have a ‘jewel like’ preciousness to it and they would be affordable for gift giving for the holidays. It was also an exhibition that was open to a wider range of artist allowing more creative people to participate.

The first exhibition had just 97 pieces and was such a huge hit with artists and the public in general that we made it an annual event. With each year, the show steadily grew both in submissions and the crowds. Over time as the exhibition grew, the (now iconic) gridding of the walls evolved as a way to organize hundreds of works by hundreds of artists.”
