MONGAUP VALLEY – To kick off the Sullivan County Women’s Softball League Playoffs, Danny’s Auto and Bat Girls went head-to-head on Monday night. The low air quality alert had no affect on the high energy play between these two teams.
Bat Girls locked in early on both sides of play allowing only 6 runs from the visiting, fourth-seeded team. Danny’s came out on a mission, taking an early lead in the game but by the third inning Bat Girls had evened the score at 5 all.
Samantha Cohn from DA was strong on defense, catching several pop flies hit into left field. Her teammate at shortstop, Mareena Van Etten, successfully stopped multiple plays heading into the outfield and made throws for outs at first and second base.
But the Bat Girls’ offense at the plate was the deciding factor in the game. Standouts from the winning team were Nicole Kothe, Jordan Carmody, Kat Kellenbeck, and Alycia Bellido who drove their team to a swift victory.
The game concluded at the top of the 6th inning, evoking the mercy rule with the Bat Girls solidifying an easy 21-6 win.
