Blue Water Manor at Lake George

Posted

I have neighbors here in River Edge who recently went to Lake George for a vacation. This caused me to remember many years ago when my husband, our children, and I would go to Blue Water Manor at Lake George and have the time of our lives. At night we would be entertained by the wait staff who would put on shows for the guests. The staff were college-aged and hired because they were all highly skilled singers and dancers, many were enrolled in performing arts colleges. The Friday night show was the highlight performance of the week with almost the entire staff taking part. Guests also had a chance to perform in a weekly talent show. In the afternoons there were often small groups rehearsing for different performances. On one occasion, my son, Jimmy, was sitting in the front row at a dance. As Jim and I danced, we suddenly heard Jimmy singing. We were floored by the fact that he had grabbed a mic and was singing along with the band to “It’s been a long, long time”. Our daughter, Patricia, learned to swim one year courtesy of a staff member. Jim and I would both water ski. Despite the fact that I hate to swim under water, I managed to hang onto the rope and remain standing for a short ride to the middle of the lake for a wonderful joy ride. After watching his parents, our son Michael, decided he could water ski, too. Jim and I had learned in the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri, where friends of ours owned a boat. This was during the first year of our marriage, when we were traveling with the Air Force when Jim was hired as a civilian to teach radar. That was after he took courses to learn it himself. All these memories came floating back to me, all because our neighbors decided to vacation on Lake George.
