MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol will be presenting a NYS Boater Safety Course on Sunday April 6 from 9am to 5pm. As of 2025, all persons operating watercraft in New York State must possess a boater safety certificate. This course will be given for free at the Sheriff’s Patrol training room located at 58 Old Route 17 in Monticello. Seating is limited and you must register online at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/224408

The minimum age to attend is 10 years old. You must pass a written test at the end of the training day. While there is no charge for the training course, NYS will charge you $10 for a copy of the boater safety certificate. For students under 18 years of age, the $10 fee is waived.

You must register in advance, and online only. Walk-ins on the date of the course will not be allowed. Any questions can be directed to the Sheriff’s Marine Patrol at 845-794-7100 option #1.

“Summer is only 4 months away. Now is the time to get ready!”

Mike Schiff

“Some training schools charge up to $130 per person for this class. For the last 19 years my office has made sure that the boater safety course is presented free of charge to the public.”
