BOCES honors 289 in career-focused celebration

Posted

With proud families and educators looking on, 289 students from Sullivan County BOCES crossed the stage on June 24  at the SUNY Sullivan Paul Gerry Fieldhouse, celebrating their completion of career and technical education (CTE) programs during a heartfelt commencement at the SUNY Sullivan Field House.

The ceremony honored graduates from across the county’s school districts who pursued hands-on learning in areas ranging from cosmetology and public safety to health sciences and construction trades.

Executive Principal Jeffrey Molusky of Career and Technical Education opened the evening with a tribute to the graduates’ growth and resilience.

“Tonight is all about celebrating your journey,” Molusky said. “You’ve grown, you’ve learned, and you’ve crafted something really special—your future. Career and technical education isn’t just about sitting in a classroom. It’s about getting your hands dirty, solving real problems, and learning skills that matter.”

Molusky highlighted the students’ achievements in earning certifications, completing internships, and joining national career organizations. “You’re not just graduating with a certificate,” he said. “You’re leaving with real-world experience and the confidence to take on whatever’s next.”

Student speaker Melina Picard of Sullivan West echoed those sentiments, sharing how the Certified Nursing Assistant program helped her and classmates gain crucial industry credentials and exposure to clinical settings. “These programs introduce students to real-world challenges and offer opportunities that go beyond the classroom,” she said.

Dr. Robert Dufour, District Superintendent of Sullivan BOCES, commended the students’ accomplishments and the dedication of families and educators who supported them. “Your children have come a long way, and you should be proud,” Dr. Dufour said. “Whatever path you’ve chosen—work, college, or military service—the world needs all types of people with all kinds of skills.”

As the names of the graduates were read and certificates awarded, cheers and applause filled the Field House. For many, the ceremony marked the beginning of immediate career entry, while others will continue their education bolstered by the experience and credentials gained through BOCES.

With caps tossed and tears shed, the Class of 2025 left the stage not just with accomplishments, but with a foundation for success—and a future forged by skill, determination, and purpose.
