Bulldogs now 4-0 in division play: Playoffs in sight

GRAHAMSVILLE – This last match up of the regular season between the Tri-Valley Bears and the visiting Sullivan West Bulldog’s football teams had implications beyond just pride and the simple desire to win. The game would help decide the final seedings for the upcoming playoffs.

It was perfect football weather, cool with just a little nip in the air. Both teams came out a little cold, each unable to do much with the first possessions of the game. But after Tri-Valley had to punt after their second possession, Sullivan West warmed up and scored on a 33-yard run by Paul Nunnari and converted their 2-point try to take an 8–0 lead.

The Bears had to punt again, but this time after a Bulldog fumble, Tri-Valley recovered the ball on Sullivan West’s 43-yard line. The Bears failed to move the necessary 10-yards on their first three downs and tried a fake punt on fourth down, which was unsuccessful, giving the ball back to Sullivan West. The Bulldogs scored again shortly after with a screen pass to Alec Hubert. Tri-Valley fumbled the ensuing kickoff, giving Sullivan West the ball on the Tri-Valley 29. The Bulldogs scored on the very next play on a pass to Dylan Scardefield, and with another successful 2-point try, Sullivan West now led 24–0.

On their next possession, the Bears had a nice drive going, but on a completed post route, Alec Hubert foiled the play from behind forcing a fumble. The Bulldogs took possession on their own 4-yard line.

From there Sullivan West started a long methodical drive capped off with a QB keeper ran in by Seamus Johnston, running it in down the center to score. Failing on the extra points try the score would hold at 30–0.

The Bears had trouble moving the ball on their next possession and had to punt. The Bulldogs scored one final time before the break holding a 38-0 lead over the home team.

On Sullivan West’s first play from scrimmage in the second half, Alec Hubert made it around the edge and scored on a 56-yard run. The Bulldogs kicked the extra point this time to take a 45–0 lead.

The Bears struggled to sustain anything on offense and again had to punt the ball back to Sullivan West. After another drive set up by a 69-yard run by Alec Hubert, the Bulldogs scored for what would be the last time on a fullback run from the 5-yard line.

The Bears scored on a breakthrough 55-yard run by Spencer Scanna, but were unable to score another touchdown before the clock ran out. The Bulldogs won with a final score of 52–6.

Tri-Valley Head coach Kevin Crudele commented on how Sullivan West, “…was a good team with a great runner, they capitalized on our mistakes, they’re solid.”

Sullivan West Coaches Ron Bauer and Justin Diehl said that they were “proud of their guys!” “Seamus Johnston played great, Alec Hubert too. Happy to win another division championship and go 4–0 in the division, but with the playoffs coming up we’re going to have to get better and play sharper.”
