GRAHAMSVILLE – The Sullivan West Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-0 with their Tuesday night win over the Tri-Valley Lady Bears. The first two innings wrapped up quickly with both teams playing exceptional defense on the field. The score was tied at 1-all heading into the top of the third.
Tri-Valley snagged two quick outs over the away team, but Sullivan West took a 2-1 lead with Roz Passante of SW running it in to home. When Tri-Valley came to bat in the bottom of the inning, Avery Carrier knocked a pop fly high into left field that was caught by SW’s McKala Chevalier.
But Sullivan West’s bats were hot, and they hit their offensive flow, taking a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Tri-Valley mounted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning to bring the game within one, but were unable to close it out.
Sullivan West would win this one 6-5 on the road. For SW Jocelyn Doyle had 2 hits and 3 RBI, and Rowan Hubbert had 3 hits and 1 RBI. Avery Carrier had 2 hits and 2 runs while teammate Caitlin Monnell contributed a double and 2 RBI.
SW’s Coach Durkin’s comments on the game, “Our game last night was a complete team effort all the way around. Our defense played one of the best games so far! On defense, Kearstin Knapp and Samantha Hellerer made some great plays. On offense we had 10 hits as a team led by Jocelyn Doyle and Rowan Hubbert. Mary Chellis pitched the entire game, only walking 1 batter. It is nice to get a win against a very strong Tri-Valley team.”
Both teams will play tonight.
The Lady Bulldogs face O’Neill at 4:30 p.m. in an away matchup, while the Lady Bears host Burke at 4:30 p.m. at home.
