CALLICOON – The ninth annual Callicoon Christmas tree lighting took place on Saturday, November 30 to kick off the official start to the holiday season. Starting at 5 p.m. at the Callicoon Train Depot, the event, hosted by the Callicoon Business Association (CBA) and guest hosted by Jen Clarke from 98.3 WSUL, included a bonfire with free s’mores for the young ones, a hot chocolate bar, musical performances and a visit from Santa himself.
The musical performances were from the Sullivan West High School Select Choir and Faith Kelly.
The CBA was also helping to collect toys for the Sullivan West School PTSO Holiday Toy Drive. The toy drive provides gifts for children in the Sullivan West school district from families that need help during the holiday season.
Anyone who brought a new unwrapped toy received a raffle entry for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to a Callicoon business of their choice.
“It was a nice community event for families to attend,” said CBA President Nicole Vallance. “I was really glad to have the Sullivan West Select Choir and Faith Kelly performing music from her Christmas album. The kids got to see Santa. It was really great for the community to come together and kick off the holiday season.”
