MONGAUP VALLEY–– The second game on Monday night and playoff opener of the Callicoon Pantry vs We Care Bears was heavily decided by the plays in the outfield than at the plate. The Callicoon Pantry overcame the We Care Bears with a score of 16 to 8.

The Callicoon Pantry played superbly in the field, making no mistakes that would help the Bears. Emmi Rattelli recorded 5 individual put outs from her shortstop position. And both Dayna Halperin and Delia Brannan made critical outs, fighting the tricky lighting to make their catches. Nancy Peifer had a great night as well, driving in 4 runs while tallying 3 strikeouts.

The Bears were led by Trish Ellmauer, who had 4 hits and 4 RBIs. The Bears’ offense was only able to score in short bursts, every potential rally cut short by the solid play of the Pantry out in the field. It was the Pantry’s consistency, both at the plate and defensively, that gave them the win. They are hoping they can continue that kind of play in game two of the series and see if they can ride it all the way to the championship.
