VOORHEESVILLE – The Catskill Claws Mountain Bike Team participated in the third league event of the New York Interscholastic Cycling season last Sunday at Thacher Park. CCMTB remains in 12th place after this race in Voorheesville with 3873 points, ahead of the Rensselaer County Red Tails with 3211 points. The course at Thatcher Park featured a lot of twists and turns with only a modest amount of elevation gain of about 125 feet over the 2.3-mile course!
“This was a fast, twisty course with a limited amount of elevation gain which made it a very competitive event,” said Head Coach Keith Stephenson. “Trail conditions were really good on race day, finding traction around the twisty course wasn’t an issue.”
The middle school and high school athletes all rode the same course with some modifications made to lap counts depending on grade. Aiden Dusenbury-Dalto and Grant Brown once again led the CCMTB high school team in the JV boys category. Dusenbury-Dalto’s fastest lap time of 14:08 on his first lap scored him an 11th place finish narrowly missing the top 10. His completion time for the course was 1:15:32 after completing 5 laps. Dusenbury-Dalto is currently ranked 10th in the state leagues’ JV boys category. Brown earned 436 points for the team and earned a 15th place finish. Brown completed the course in a time of 1:19:39 ranking 18th overall after completing two of three events so far this season.
Jacob Maloney and Landon Leonard led the middle school team last weekend at Thatcher Park. Maloney clocked in his fastest lap time at 15:35 on his first lap while finishing the three-lap course in 48:32. Maloney ranks seventh among 7th-grade boys in the state league.
Leonard earned a 10th place finish in the 6th grade boys’ category. He rode his fastest lap time on his first lap in 16:29 and had an overall time of 34:45 after two laps. Leonard is currently in 19th place after completing two of the first three 6th-grade boys’ events this season. After the race Stephenson shared, “Our team is looking forward to the league’s 2026 championship event.” CCMTB is scheduled to compete in the New York Interscholastic Cycling League Championship on Sunday, June 14, in Salem, NY.
