GLEN RIDGE, NJ – Spurred by a record-setting 5-under par 30 on the back nine, the father-daughter team of Ken and Gabby Cohen stormed back to win the Westchester Parent-Child Golf Tournament Monday at Glen Ridge Country Club.
The Westchester Parent-Child is held concurrently with the Metropolitan Golf Association’s Parent Child in which the Cohens finished third.
The tournament uses the Modified Pinehurst format in which both players hit tee shots, switch balls for their second shots, and then select one ball to finish the hole, playing alternate shot.
The Cohens struggled to find the fairway on the front nine, shooting a four-over par 40. They were in 24th place at the turn, seven shots off the lead. But three consecutive birdies to open the back nine started their incredible climb up the leaderboard. A closing birdie on the 18th hole, with Gabby sinking a clutch three-footer, sealed the improbable comeback victory.
