Color Wars: May the best class win

LAKE HUNTINGTON – On Friday night in Lake Huntington, Sullivan West grades 9-12 competed against each other in their annual color wars competition. In a variety of activities including an obstacle course, free throw shooting, tug-of-war, steal the balloon and more the senior class prevailed, winning  7 out of the 15 activities.

The obstacle course was the first activity. The seniors toppled the underclassmen by more than one minute. Judging by the crowd size in the gym, parents and families enjoyed the event as much as the students.

There was fierce competition for the best class banner which were on display at the top of every bleacher section behind each class.

SW color wars have inspired other schools as well. Student representatives from the junior and sophomore classes from Monticello High School were in attendance and Principal Jen Gorr looks forward to bringing it back to the district.

It was a bittersweet celebration as SW teacher and color wars organizer, Patti Norden will be retiring this year. Norden is responsible for bringing this festive event to SW back in 2007.
