Monticello – This past weekend, excitement buzzed through the halls of Resorts World Catskills as actors from across the region gathered to audition for the highly anticipated local film, Where the High Ends. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, the audition rooms were packed with hopefuls eager to bring their talents to the screen.
Performers traveled from as far as Boston, New Jersey, New York City, the Poconos, Long Island, and Connecticut, all vying for a role in the upcoming production. The energy was palpable as both seasoned actors and newcomers stepped in front of the camera to make their mark.
The panel overseeing the auditions was a powerhouse of industry professionals, including Azucena Martinez (Script Supervisor), Andrew Matthews (Casting Director), Charles Marinaro (Director/Writer/Producer), Lisa Marie Brevogel (Assistant Casting Director), and Ben Brown (Production Manager). Capturing the action behind the lens were Adam Bello (1st Assistant Camera) and Simon Fridlich (Director of Photography), each ensuring no moment of talent was missed.
Director and writer Charles Marinaro expressed his excitement about the turnout and the caliber of performers. “I truly believe we found some amazing talent at this audition,” Marinaro shared. “We have some extremely challenging choices to make in the selection process. It was inspiring to see so many first-time actors try something unfamiliar to them.”
The casting process is far from over—online auditions remain open, offering even more aspiring actors a chance to join the production. Final casting decisions are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
For industry veteran Simon Fridlich, who has been working professionally in film for over three decades, the weekend was a reminder of his enduring passion for the craft. When asked by hotel staff how long he had been in filmmaking, Fridlich quipped, “Too long… Over 30 years professionally. Almost as long as Charles has been alive. I love every minute of it and hope more people find things they truly love.”
As anticipation builds, Where the High Ends promises to bring fresh faces and local flair to the screen, solidifying the Catskills as an emerging hub for independent filmmaking.
