Delaware Highlands Conservancy Announces Eagle Watch Volunteer Trainings

Posted

UPPER DELAWARE RIVER REGION, PA AND NY – The Delaware Highlands Conservancy will host two trainings for those interested in becoming Eagle Watch volunteers for winter 2027.

The Conservancy’s winter Eagle Watch program runs on weekends through January and February. Volunteers cover morning or afternoon shifts at the Eagle Observation Areas. On site, volunteers collect data on wintering and resident eagle pairs, as well as visitor numbers at each Eagle Watch location. They also educate the public about “Eagle Etiquette” and how to have a safe and enjoyable eagle-watching experience. Throughout the year, Eagle Watch volunteers may also staff outreach booths, lead workshops, and participate in other eagle-related events.

Space is limited and advance registration for either training is required.

Scheduled trainings include:

Saturday, December 12th from 10am-12pm at the Highlights Foundation Retreat Center, Milanville, PA

Thursday, December 17th from 6pm-7:30pm; virtual training on Zoom

For details and to register, please visit www.DelawareHighlands.org/events or call Education and Stewardship Associate Lydia Freethy at 570-226-3164 ext. 4.

Volunteers will also have the opportunity to pick up training manuals and other materials for the winter season. Following the training, volunteers are invited to take a self-guided tour of the Eagle Observation Areas.

The locations available for Eagle Watch volunteers to monitor include:

• Big Eddy Observation Deck in Narrowsburg NY

• Ten Mile River NPS River Access in Narrowsburg NY

• Visitor’s Center at the Zane Grey Museum in Lackawaxen PA

• Lackawaxen Boat Launch in Lackawaxen PA

• Mongaup WMA Observation Blind at the Mongaup Reservoir in Forestburgh, NY
