DKG working in the community

SULLIVAN COUNTY – Just who is Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Tau Chapter? Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, known as DKG, promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education. Tau Chapter members are teachers, active and retired, from the school districts in Sullivan County, interested in making a difference in the community and growing professionally and personally.

One way Tau Chapter has answered this call to make a difference in the community is by preparing and helping to serve a dinner at the St Paul’s Lutheran Nutrition program, in Liberty.  As a bonus, Cody Lennon, a senior at SWCSD, provided people with music to enjoy along with their meal.  Cody is the grandson of TAU Chapter President, Elizabeth Huggler. His music was so well received that Cody was invited back to play at another dinner.

Another community minded project for Tau Chapter is the “Born to Read” project. The purpose of this project is to provide books to families to read to newborns and young children.  Reading to young children is an effective way to develop language skills, provide family time, and instill a love for reading.

Coming in June, to Sullivan County Schools, will be more information about Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Tau Chapter and celebrating our teachers here in Sullivan County.
