Donna Deppa Track Invitational returns to Sullivan West

JEFFERSONVILLE –– On Wednesday May 21, The Donna Deppa Track and Field Invitational returned to Sullivan West after a 7-year hiatus. Last run in 2018, the Sullivan County invitational was created in memorial of long-time track and field supporter Donna Deppa, an avid fan who dedicated many volunteer hours to the program at Sullivan West.

The event kicked off with the SW Elementary School’s Running Club’s 800m race. 6th grade phenom Shae Seibert won the youth race with an amazing time of 2:53!

Despite the rain and cold temperatures, athletes from all seven school districts in Sullivan County competed against their rivals and friends. Sydania Foster (Liberty) and George Gachechiladze (Monticello) were named the Track MVP’s. Jordan Wall-Carty (Fallsburg) and William Burns (Monticello) were given the Field MVP honors, voted on by the attending coaches.

Sullivan West senior track and field athletes Katelynn Smith, Brooke Nunnari, Charlie Kutschera, and Ethan Kavarnos were recognized for their years of commitment to the team.

The Sullivan West track and field program and Booster club are committed to making sure this once annual competition  continues in the future.
