I was on the driving range this morning giving a lesson when 4 young players approached the hitting area. My guess is they were in their early 20s. All four started hitting their drivers immediately. No stretching no wedges then maybe a 7 iron and work their way up to the Driver. They all were swinging like they were going for the speed record on how fast they could go. Most of you avid golfers know this game will hurt your back at some point. You must practice or loosen up with a routine. First, take out a club to stretch with over your head and side to side. Then maybe a few squats to activate the “glutes”. The first club to get loose with should be a wedge or 9 iron. A 4 or 5 iron or hybrid would be next and lastly the driver. Loosen up your body like y_o_u_’r_e_ _warming up your car. Your body can only take so much speed and hitting drivers first is a no no.
Shout out to Villa Roma member Ken Cohen and his daughter Gabby who won the Westchester Golf Associations Parent Child tournament this past Monday at Glen Ridge CC .
The Villa Roma also Held a Parent /Child tournament this past Sunday. Twenty-Two teams played in a scramble format and John and Jordan Meyer won with a 9 under par 63. I believe this event will become huge in the future. Nothing like playing with your family in a tournament.
