NARROWSBURG – As part of their on-going 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) are thrilled to present an ambitious new production of Thornton Wilder’s 1938 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Our Town at the Tusten Theatre. Directed by Greg Triggs, this production features many familiar faces from the local theater scene and some very talented newcomers. There will be four performances across two weekends and advance ticket purchases are strongly advised.
In 1976, residents gathered to put on a production of Thorton Wilder’s 1938 Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Our Town. It opened at the Park Theatre in Narrowsburg and traveled to Callicoon where it was performed at Harmony Hall in the Western Inn. Directed & produced by Tom DeGaetani and Elaine Giguere, it directly led to the forming of the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance.
In celebration of DVAA’s 50th anniversary and its ongoing commitment to nurturing Art as a central element of rural life, we invite audiences to travel once again to the town of Grover’s Corners, for a play that honors the ordinary and eternal cycles of life in a small American community.
“I first read Our Town in middle school, when I was roughly the age of some of our younger cast members. It changed my life. I find Thornton Wilder’s themes more relevant than ever—here in this little town, with its narrow streets originally designed for horses. Our version of Grover's Corners,” said Director Greg Triggs. He added, “I look at the kids on stage and in the audience and hope they have their own version of those lessons. If time truly is a destination we can visit, I hope we’ll find them sharing wonderful stories about their lives and this production when DVAA celebrates its 100th birthday in 2076.”
Our Town plays at 7pm on Friday, October 16th, Saturday, October 17th Friday, October 23rd at 7pm and at 2:30pm on Saturday, October 24th at the Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge Street, Narrowsburg. Tickets available from delawarevalleyartsalliance.org.
