DVAA Presents TUSTEN JAZZ A Weekend of World-Class Jazz in Narrowsburg NY

NARROWSBURG – The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) invites you to once again immerse yourself in TUSTEN JAZZ. This two-day musical extravaganza, featuring a diverse lineup of local and international musicians, will take place on November 7th and 8th at 2pm at DVAA’s Tusten Theatre and Krause Recital Hall in Narrowsburg.

Trombonist Ryan Keberle joins Urbem, a jazz band all the way from Campo Grande, Brazil, for an evening of music from Pantanal Jam, an original music and documentary project where nature is not the backdrop, it’s the composer. Cicadas. Rain. Howler monkeys. Jaguar roars. These real-life sounds of the Pantanal, the world’s largest tropical wetland – spanning Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay, were captured live and became the foundation of this contemporary jazz album recorded on site. You can learn more about the project at www.pantanaljam.com.

November 7th’s program will also include songs from Keberle’s new album, Here Is Donato!, a tribute to the music of Brazilian jazz pianist João Donato, one of the most influential voices in Brazilian music.

Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge St, Narrowsburg - Urbem, featuring Ryan Keberle on trombone, Blanca Basha - voice, guitar, Ann Ferrer – piano, Gabe Bass – bass, and Sandy Moran – drums. Adult tickets - $25 in advance, $30 at the door. Children aged 12 and under are free.

Also on Saturday, November 7th at 7 PM is Tree Trini Collective, featuring Fay Victor and Joy In An Ugly World, featuring Lee Taylor. Tree Trini Collective centers the long and often-undiscussed history of experimentation at the musical core of the sister island nations of Trinidad and Tobago. Drawing on the ancestral resourcefulness of turning first bamboo then discarded oil drums into instruments that would become the steelpan, Tree Trini Collective projects T&T’s musical diaspora into futures unknown. Through improvisation and new compositions by all three group members, the group uses the vibrational space of their shared ancestry and artistry to express “our deepest feelings and connections at this time. We go back to our roots to move forward.”

Tree Trini Collective is Fay Victor on vocals, Lyndon Achee on the Steelpan and Jessie Cox on drums. Adult tickets - $40 in advance, $50 at the door. Children aged 12 and under – free.

Joy In an Ugly World features Lee Taylor – Vocals, Marius Van Den Brink – Piano, Steve Wood – Bass, Ismail Lawal – Drums. Lee Taylor is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actor, and artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Raised in the South, Taylor’s musical education began early. They started teaching private oboe lessons at 13 and were singing in local clubs as a teenager, crediting public school music programs for their start. Their sound draws on blues and jazz, delivered with the kind of grit that comes from years of paying dues on real stages rather than algorithms. Tusten Theatre, 210 Bridge St, Narrowsburg, NY

On Sunday, November 8th, 11 AM Catskill Jazz Brunch with Matthew Albeck and Matt Hoffmann at Krause Recital Hall, DVAA, 37 Main St, Narrowsburg. Adult tickets - $30 in advance, $40 at the door. Children aged 12 and under - $15. Vibraphonist Matt Hoffmann and guitarist Matthew Albeck will perform a program of improvision and standards at our Catskill Jazz Brunch, featuring food by a selection of local purveyors. This is the perfect setting to mingle with your fellow Tusten Jazz attendees.
