CENTRAL VALLEY – BCANY hosted its 2025 Summer Hoops Fest earlier this month. Teams representing each section of New York State participated in the tournament. 

To be considered as a player, several criteria must be met: including through athlete performance in their league, nomination, academic achievement, and tryouts. 

Ella Herbert, an incoming junior at Sullivan West, was the sole student athlete from Sullivan County to be selected to the Mid-Hudson Section IX team. During the regular basketball season, Ella averaged 14 points and nine rebounds per game. According to her coach at Sullivan West, Pat Donovan, “She [Ella] loves the game of basketball.” This was Ella’s first year being selected to the Mid-Hudson team. She was an alternate in 2024.

 A total of 18 teams from Southern Tier, Rochester, Buffalo, North Country, and Long Island, among other areas, participated in Hoops Fest earlier this month. Ella is proud of this opportunity and her achievement in being a part of the BCANY Mid-Hudson Team.
